Bakers Twine ~ A Little Now, LOTS More to Come

September 15th, 2009 § 9

I know I’ve gone on and on about my love for Japanese masking tape, but I don’t think I’ve expressed my STRONG feelings for bakers twine. I love the stuff! I love how it appears so delicate, but is so strong. I love the sweet cheerfulness it brings to anything it adorns. I love how it can be used in so many ways and always brings a smile to my face. I love to see it wrapped around baked goods, paper goods, gifts and the vase on my desk. I love to see ornaments, gift tags and just about anything else hanging from it. I love it. I just do.

I went hunting for bakers twine in colors beyond the red/white, brown/white etc. currently available. I looked and searched and hunted to no avail. I thought I can’t be alone in this bakers twine infatuation. There must be others who would enjoy appreciate crave some other colors of this twisted goodness. After many months researching, testing and calculating, I decided to bring some to the marketplace. If all goes well with production, it should be available in November. I’m trying to be as earth-friendly as I can with this product; 100% cotton and wound onto cardboard cones so it will be bio-degradable, minimal packaging and recycled or re-cyclable shipping materials. Below is a photo of the colors to come.

This is a photo of samples I hand twisted myself to give me a visual for color selection. The final bakers twine will be a tad different.

This photo is of samples I hand twisted to give me a visual for color selection. The colors of the final bakers twine will very close to those in the photo, but the twist will be a tad different.

During the testing process a couple of  samples were produced. I’ve measured and packaged them into 15 yd increments and have made them available in my etsy shop. I have a very limited supply in a lovely cranberry red and natural color combination. Because the natural is a light creamy color, I think it gives the twine a vintage feel. It’s 100% cotton and very soft to the touch. It’s a little bit thicker than your average bakers twine and twisted a little more loosely.

If you want to know when the final colors are available (Final colors will be  aqua/bright white, orange/bright white, yellow/bright white, apple green/bright white, and black/bright white.) leave a comment on this post or shoot me an email at whiskergraphics [at] gmail [dot] com.
