My mom’s birthday is coming up so I made her a card. I submitted this design in the Crane competition (I was not a selected designer. boo hoo), but I thought my mom would get a kick out of it. We have this running joke between us, I call her Betty (not her real name) and she calls me Windy. These are our alias names that came about from people not hearing our correct names when being introduced to us.
Anybody else have a mis-heard “alias” name? Do tell.
Side note: Before Windy came into play, the #1 response to my name when I was little was, “Whitney, isn’t that a boy’s name?” Way to crush a 5-year-old girl’s heart thoughtless grown-ups of the 60′s. In all fairness, this was well before the Whitney Houston craze.

On three separate occasions, I’ve been called Scarlet. Once someone hears ‘Scarlet’, try, just try, to get them to shift to ‘Carly’. I also get every variety of name starting with a C or K,
I’ve never met a boy-Whitney but I have met a few Ashleys… Not surprising, being called “Scarlet”, and all…
I’ve been called Polly, Molly, and Lola (I have no idea on that one…). Hence my email references that – “holly, not molly.” Now, I tell people my name is, “Holly, like at Christmas.”
Your card is wonderful! For some reason, people have always called me Ginger, since I was a kid. Doesn’t matter where I am ~ party, grocery store, gym, school ~ something compels people to call me Ginger. My name is Jennifer, and I go by Jenn. I don’t have red hair or smell like Gingerbread. I don’t get it, but don’t mind it either.
When my daughter Lauren was 3, a friend’s daughter thought her name was Norman. 20 years later, I still call her Norman. She doesn’t seem to mind…..
Oh but I love that handsome giraffe! I don’t know my name has ever been mistake for something else … although, my nickname {Amos} gets a few strange looks …
Fascinating blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A design like yours with a few simple adjustements would really make my blog stand out. Please let me know where you got your theme. Thanks
