I might be all grown up, but my mom still teaches me things. Good things. Things that make a difference on a daily or even sometimes minute-by-minute basis. Here’s something she taught with me about a year ago. It’s a word. Really it’s how to use a certain word. The word yet. Here’s how to release the magic of using the word yet. Whenever you find yourself complaining or being hard on yourself (or anyone else) add the word yet to the end of the negative sentence you’re thinking or saying.
For instance take
“I”m not being the parent I want to be.”
“My business isn’t growing.”
“I’m not creative.”
“My boss doesn’t value me.”
“I’m not eating healthy.”
“I don’t know what I’m going to do about _____.”
and add yet
“I”m not being the parent I want to be, yet.”
“My business isn’t growing, yet.”
“I’m not feeling creative, yet.”
“My boss doesn’t value me, yet.”
“I’m not eating healthy, yet.”
“I don’t know what I’m going to do about _____, yet.”
That little word at the end is like magic. Instead of a dead end of feeling stuck, it opens the door to possibilities. I’ve been using yet a lot lately and it works its magic every time. Try it. Let me know how it works for you.
