  • A Silhouette or other SVG cutter if you choose
  • Bitty bags in various colors and designs
  • Divine Twine in colors you choose
  • A variety of skin tone papers and hair color papers
  • Mono glue by Tombow
  • Tape or other adhesive

When my daughter wanted to plan a slumber party for her birthday I imagined invitations of paper dolls in little sleeping bags. This came to life with the bitty bags in diagonal stripe. They were the perfect size and colors to make mini sleeping bags.

I started by drawing out the faces and hair options for each girl. I scanned them into the computer and turned them into SVG files in Silhouette Studio. If however you don’t have a Silhouette or that seems too complicated I did hand trace and cut a few out and they turned out perfect.

When we were cutting out the pieces my daughter and I tried to match the features in out paper dolls to her friends so it would feel even more personalized. We used a variety of skin tones and hair colors and putting them together was one of the best parts and so easy to do with a child. To finish them up I drew little smiles and closed eyes on each of their faces with a felt tip pen.

Once the dolls had been assembled I finished up the writing on each invitation and attached a neck piece in coordinating skin tone ( about a 1/2″ strip) to the back of each invitation so I could attach the head. I also glued the little hands on the front of the bitty bags, they had to stay separate from the rest of the invitation to look more realistic. I used remnants of divine twine I had to create the perfect mini hair bows for their hair and glued them on using a dot of Mono glue by Tombow.

I really loved the way these invitations came together and my daughter is so excited to hand them out to her friends.
