Divine Twine Art by Cathe Holden
My blog pal, Cathe Holden, is one of the most amazing people I know. She’s a craft goddess on her blog Just Something I Made, she’s a top-notch graphic designer at her company Home Grown Logos, AND she’s incredibly creative, kind, thoughtful and funny.

Thanks, Cathe! Amazing!

Each year my husband and I try and give a significant ornament to each other. Something that touches on an event or special meaning for us. Some years we are spot on, others… not so much. We happened to make our ornaments this year and I really like how they turned out.

Bakers twine has been a BIG part of 2009 for me and the LOML has had to endure hours and hours and hours (and hours) of listening to me create, plan, worry and stress about it (not to mention schlep many 45lb. boxes). He made me a Divine Twine ball ornament in aqua and white. I think this is my favorite gift this year. His thoughtfulness never ceases to touch and amaze me.
I was shopping for an ornament for the LOML and not liking anything. My son suggested I make one out of felt (09 was the year of felt) in a heart shape so it would be a heart felt ornament. My husband is always doing a play on words, so this was perfect!

I was frantically hurrying to make his ornament that I wasn’t paying attention to details. OX? As in oxen? Um, no. OX as in kiss hug. He still liked it and my faux pas made it even more personal.

I am forever trying to think up new ideas for the bakers twine. Here’s one I came up with for our holiday card this year. I was inspired by the sewing/lacing cards I played with as a kid.

Card as recipient received it.
I punched all the holes with this.

Back of card. Taped twine down with japanese masking tape.
Label reads: part craft ~ part puzzle ~ all holiday cheer. I gave a url with a photo of the photo below.

Finished card.

It’s that magical time of the year when the LOML turns into Baker Bob and bakes up a storm of delicious cookies for the neighbors. He’s in charge of the cookies. I’m in charge of the wrapping. We delivered these boxes (yes, there are cookies inside) to smiling faces Sunday night.

I’ve been obsessing over these paper lantern ornaments. I’ve tried several different papers. Thick scrapbook stock doesn’t work well (the brad is too short). Wrapping paper is too thin (unless you have some good quality stuff it easily rips). Scrapbook paper (not thick stock) is just right. I bought some 12 x 12″ sheets at Michael’s on sale and started cutting. After I added the brads and opened the balls, I attached some Divine Twine to the top so I can hang them.

I used one on a baby shower gift along with some more divine bakers twine and my lifetime supply of gift wrap.

If you’re thinking you might like to get your craft on and make some of these, click here to download a pre-measured grid you can print on the back of your paper so you won’t have to measure over and over.

Playing around a bit (and wrapping a few gifts) with the bakers twine and some stickers.

For the bottom wrap job, I took plain 1″ circular labels, hand-stamped with birds and bees, spaced them out along the Licorice twine and backed them up to each other.
