Last Fall a neighbor was moving and placed piles of free stuff at the curb. I scored this little 5 drawer dresser. It’s taken me that many months to get myself to IKEA to buy the new handles so I could revamp this little beauty.
It had that antique-ish stain treatment popular in the 70′s.
I removed the knobs and went to town with my palm sander (I love a good power tool!).
Initially I had plans to put a new coat of paint on it (Gossamer Blue from Benjamin Moore left over from painting the bathroom), but when I started sanding I LOVED the blue color under the stain and decided to leave it just like that. (The top three drawer fronts are after sanding, the bottom one is the original finish.)
The drawers had a musty scent inside, so I cut some of my Lifetime Supply of Wrapping Paper to line the drawers and sprayed it with Mrs. Meyer’s Gingerbread Air Freshener (I bought this Christmas 2008 and can’t find it any more. So sad cause it’s yummy.).
My husband drilled new holes for the IKEA handles. I wanted big handles because the dresser is old and not well made and pulling from the center of the drawers makes them open much easier.
Happy Accident: I mixed the powder (which was ALL over the patio) left from the sanding with the spackle so I wouldn’t have to touch up paint. Time saver. Yea!
I just re-found this blog post from Crafty Nest that I read last summer. I remember thinking it was a cool idea at the time. I didn’t realize how heavily influenced I was! I love how she attached a power strip to the side. Genius!
